In 2017, the Matheysine plateau marked 20 years since the end of mining. So, the TPM created a new race to take you along the trail of this local epic. Since it was one of the highlights of the 2017 edition, the organisers bring it back.
You run the 3rd Poste solo or as a 2-runner relay. Moreover, the course passes the 3 mine shafts still visible today, plus several landmarks.
First, the race starts in Prunières, at the foot of the Rioux shaft. Then you climb above La Mure and pass through La Mure station. There, you follow the famous Petit Train de La Mure railway. Incidentally, it became a tourist attraction in the 1980s, even before the mine closed!
Next, the railway leads you to the Villaret shaft in Susville and the coal depot. Once, workers stored the ore there before loading it onto wagons. Those wagons ran down the line between 1888 and 1988. Here, the relay handover takes place for those who share the distance.
After that, the course climbs the Sénépi slopes. So, you run past old gallery entrances. You also overlook many miners’ hamlets: Le Villaret, La Centrale, Peychagnard and Le Crey. Besides, you pass the Centrale pond. The power station there produced electricity from coal residues.
Finally, you reach the finish at the 3rd shaft: the Sainte Marie shaft. It stands at the underground museum La Mine Image, in La Motte-d’Aveillans.

The natural spaces we are working on and the people who are taking care of those lands and territories, which you will be crossing for the race, are factors we do not control 100%. Therefore, we sometimes have to make changes to our different routes, which can slightly modify the distance and/or the altitude difference. This distance and altitude difference is therefore given as an indication.
