Mine Express: the team race that starts aboard the Petit Train de La Mure
A railway built on coal
Since 1888, the Petit Train de La Mure carried coal and miners from the Matheysine plateau down to Grenoble. After a century of service, it became a tourist attraction in 1988. But a landslide stopped traffic in October 2010, ending 122 years of operation.
The TPM celebrates this heritage
Since 2018, the TPM has showcased this legendary railway, a pillar of the Matheysine heritage. First, runners discover it during La Grande Course. Then the 3e Poste features it since 2017, and the Petit Train race since 2019.
A new race since 2021: Mine Express
In 2021, the line reopened to tourists. So, the TPM created Mine Express. First, you board the Petit Train in La Mure. Then a twenty-minute ride takes you to the start, at the underground museum La Mine Image, in La Motte d’Aveillans.
A race for teams of two
One train offers 200 seats. That’s why the organisers limit the race to 100 teams of two. Moreover, both teammates must run together from start to finish. Finally, the official time is that of the second runner to cross the line.
The course covers 13 km with 700 m of elevation gain. In the end, you reach La Mure station, the symbolic finish.
An historic journey between lakes and mountains to (re)discover, thanks to the revival of the Petit Train de La Mure!
In summary, Mine Express is:
– A team race for 2 (both runners complete the same distance) of 13 km / 700 m elevation gain
– A unique transfer before the race (included in your registration fee) via the Petit Train, from La Mure (finish) to La Mine Image (start)
– Limited to 100 teams of 2, so don’t delay in signing up!

Therefore, we sometimes have to make changes to our different routes, which can slightly modify the distance and/or the altitude difference. This distance and altitude difference is therefore given as an indication.
