The historic railway line of the Petit Train de La Mure was opened in 1888. It was used to transport coal to Grenoble from different mining areas of the Matheysin. It was also used to transport the miners and other people working in and around the mines.
After a century of service, this mythical railway line was adapted as a tourist attraction in 1988, until its closure in October 2010 due to a rockslide on the line. This ended 122 years of service!
Since its creation, the TPM has always highlighted this historic railway line, pillar of the Matheysin historical and cultural legacy. Participants have to run along important sections of this railway line during the Big Race, then the 3e Poste since 2017, and then the Petit Train since 2019.
A NEW RACE SINCE 2021 : MINE EXPRESS
As 2021 marks the reopening of the tourist operation of Le Petit Train de La Mure railway line, we have associated ourselves with this event by proposing a new race to our programme: the MINE EXPRESS. This new experience offers runners the following package: board the mythical Petit Train in La Mure for a twenty-minute trip which will take you to the departure of the race, the underground museum La Mine Image, in La Motte d’Aveillans. As the capacity of a train is 200 seats, the number of bibs is limited to 100 teams of two people. Indeed, this Mine Express race must be completed by teams of TWO (the 2 team members will run together for the entire course and the time taken into account will be that of the 2nd runner to cross the finish line) with a course of 16 km for 850m D+ to reach the station of La Mure, the symbolic arrival.

In brief, Mine Express is:
– A team race for 2 (the 2 participants run the same distance) of 16 km / 850 m d+.
– A new transport (included in your registration fee) thanks to the Petit Train, between La Mure (arrival) and La Mine Image (departure)
– Limited to 100 teams of 2. Don’t wait to register!

The natural spaces we are working on and the people who are taking care of those lands and territories, which you will be crossing for the race, are factors we do not control 100%. Therefore, we sometimes have to make changes to our different routes, which can slightly modify the distance and/or the altitude difference. This distance and altitude difference is therefore given as an indication.
